Thank You
There was nothing beautiful about that morning on April 14, 1965, at least not the hours surrounding my birth. The truth is that it was an agonizing and painful experience.
One child destined to be born, was torn from the loins of a woman screaming and writhing in pain while her hands held tight to the blood-stained sheets.
And just when the screaming had finally stopped the doctor sternly announced, “She’s not breathing.”
Lifeless arms dangled as though they hung on a thread, while I was rushed aside for emergency CPR. One lung had already collapsed and my heart, barely the size of a gumball, stopped dead. My life was out of their hands, and it was up to my Father in Heaven to decide whether this little girl had a future on earth, or whether I would return to the safety and comfort of His unfailing arms.
Two minutes later, this girl--this lifeless girl without a single beat in her heart, was blessed. Two minutes later, I was sent into this world with a mission, “Share the power of My Word.”
He knew what I was destined to be. He knew every failure, every fault, and every act of disobedience that I'd offer to Him in the name temptation and sin. He knew the frailty of my humanity, the weakness of my flesh, and my propensity toward temptation. And yet by the goodness of His incomparable grace He planted me into the soil of this world that I might be a seed that carries the message of His immaculate Word.
Thank you for reading my words. Thank you for the grace that you give this cracked vessel each and every time you offer a word of encouragement or simply read mine.

ReplyDeleteGod bless you Darlene! Thank you for exposing your heart, your vulnerabilities, for being so transparent. You are an inspiration to many...we are all broken beings, patched up by His Grace and Mercy, held together by His great and abiding Love. What a miraculous birth you had and what a miraculous ministry you have now...may God always bless your efforts as you seek to glorify Him!

ReplyDeleteWhat a miracle you are -I think God for your words that bring truth to women. May God continue to bless every word you bravely put out for the world to see. You've been a great encouragement to me!!
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Your sister in Christ,

Thank you for all your work and sharing your heart! God has used your words to change my walk, and make me a better wife and mother :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your fellowship. My mom was okay, but I was the last of six. After my birth the doctor was pacing and mumbling. He was visibly upset. He kept saying, "I should have done it differently, I should have..."
ReplyDeleteThe nerves in both of my arms were torn and there was no movement in either. They say that my lungs collapsed and my heart stopped beating for two minutes.
For months after my birth my mom pinned my arms back to the sheet of my crib so that I would exercise them. My left arm came back, but my right arm is partly paralyzed. It looks crooked.
After my birth they took me away and my mom didn't see me for days. I can't imagine that! I'd be frantic to see the baby, but I was in ICU I guess and she didn't know why she couldn't see me.
I imagine that must have been such a painful experience emotionally and physically.
Absolutely Amazing story. I for one am glad God brought you to all of us who read your blog.
ReplyDeleteThey did so much differently back then - I was born in August of the same year Darlene - I think my mom was given ether before delivery and the dads were not present.
ReplyDeleteThe Lord brought you through it for a purpose and you let your light shine daily and we are grateful for you.
Thank you for the encouragement that you are here on your blog, on FB and pinterest as well.
