Today I've asked my friend Jennifer Smith from Unveiled Wife to be our guest. I love the way that Jennifer encourages women in their marriage, and I know you will too!
When my husband proposed to me, he passionately pointed out a special inscription he had placed on the inside of my ring.
"A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." - Ecclesiastes 4:12During the excitement and thrill of the proposal he explained how important it will be for us to keep God at the center of our relationship. The three cords significantly represented the intimate union of my soon-to-be husband, myself and God.
We stood on the promise that the three of us together were stronger than any force trying to tear us down.
I was quite oblivious to the impact of this verse until months into marriage. My husband and I were fighting, struggling and growing weary of marriage. Our expectations were not being met and disappointment was setting in, leaving us vulnerable to the flaming arrows of the enemy.
I twisted my ring around again and again on my finger remembering the Lord's wise words.
In moments of despair, fatigue, and severed intimacy, I clung to this verse. It was a life line for us. We had to remain a cord of three or we were not going to last "til death do us part."
There is power in God's words. They are transforming! Meditating on this verse in Ecclesiastes helped me to refocus my energy and my heart on fighting for my marriage instead of against it!
And we are still going strong!
I hope this gives you hope today. Hang in there friend and abide in God's word for strength!
Blessings,
Jennifer Smith
